Evangelism, Postmodernism, Wisdom, and The Cross

Preacher:
Passage: I Corinthians 1:17-2:5

We are influenced by larger cultural trends that might be invisible to us but still impactful. For us to be sensitive to the next generations, we need to be aware of some of the implications of postmodernism. Modernity and postmodernism were described. I Cor. 1:17-2:5 is the Apostle Paul's response to the wisdom and desires of the world. The cross is contrasted against what Gentiles and Jews were looking for. The cross was such an offensive symbol that it became a stumbling block for the Jews and foolishness to the Gentiles. But the cross is the power of God to save all those whom he calls to himself. The Apostle Paul speaks of coming in the power of God and not in the eloquence of human wisdom or presentation. We needs to be encouraged to share with the same confidence as we share the Gospel, even as many might scoff at it, especially the fact that there is only one way to God -- through Jesus Christ.
